Debate on Urban Food, 11.04.2025
On April 11 at 4:30 p.m., an open debate titled “Food Security in the City” took place at the Library of the Institute of Geography and Regional Development (pl. Uniwersytecki 1, 2nd floor). The debate was moderated by Dr. Anna Grochowska (Social Participation Research Unit, University of Wrocław). Participants included: Dagmara Szastak (Green REV Institute), Aleksandra Sawicka Green (co-chair of the Wrocław branch of the Green Party), Krzysztof Lorek (Youth Climate Strike), and Dr. Alicja Krzemińska (Institute of Geography and Regional Development), representing the FOCUSE research team.
Dr. Alicja Krzemińska delivered a presentation based on the FOCUSE project conducted at the University of Wrocław, which focuses on food production and supply through circular urban systems in European cities.
The project, titled “Food Production and Supply through Circular Urban Systems in European Cities” (acronym: FOCUSE), is funded by the National Centre for Research and Development under the DUT Call 2022 programme, with a total grant of PLN 1,125,906.50. The project runs from February 1, 2024, to January 31, 2027.
The presentation prepared for the open debate addressed an innovative approach to circular food production systems in urban contexts. Specifically, its objectives were to:
- Understand the current food production and supply system in urban areas, including its limitations and environmental and social impacts;
- Present a novel approach to food production within the circular economy model;
- Analyse the opportunities and challenges for the implementation of circular urban food systems, considering both technical and social barriers.
