Study Visit to Stockholm (1–3 September 2025)
On 1–3 September 2025, representatives of the Wrocław City Office – Dr Eng. Małgorzata Bartyna-Zielińska and MA Martyna Gawlik – together with Dr Eng. Anna Zaręba, took part in a study visit to Stockholm. The aim of the visit was to learn about best practices and modern solutions in urban agriculture, green infrastructure, the circular economy, and sustainable urban development. The trip was carried out within the FOCUSE project, funded by the National Centre for Research and Development.
Day 1 was devoted to scientific cooperation and spatial planning. The participants met with Dr Todor Stojanovski from KTH Royal Institute of Technology, a partner in the FOCUSE project, to discuss issues related to urban development, mobility, and innovative technologies. They then visited historic garden cities from the 1920s, which to this day serve as examples of the harmonious integration of residential development with greenery and the active involvement of residents in shaping public space, including through the planting of fruit trees and shrubs.
Day 2 focused on green infrastructure and urban agriculture. The programme included a visit to the island of Djurgården – one of Stockholm’s largest and most important green spaces – as well as to the biodynamic garden Rosendals Trädgård, which operates under a farm-to-fork model and combines food production with environmental education. In the afternoon, the participants visited the Hammarby Sjöstad district, an example of sustainable revitalisation of post-industrial areas, featuring an advanced system of water, energy, and waste management, as well as local community gardens.
Day 3 included a visit to the Solna district and to Ulriksdals Trädgårdscafé – a venue that combines urban agriculture with gastronomy. Based on local and seasonal food production, the facility promotes short supply chains and circular-economy principles such as waste reduction, efficient use of resources, and soil regeneration.
