International Landscape Day 2025

On October 17th, as part of the World Landscape Day, the Faculty of Earth Sciences and Environmental Management at the University of Wrocław organized an event titled “Landscape Day and Geodiversity Day” under the slogan: “SYMBIOSIS – Nature and City in One Landscape!”

The event took place on the University of Wrocław campus on Borna Street and gathered over 200 high school studentsfrom various towns across Lower Silesia. The program included lectures, workshops, and field trips. This year, the FOCUSE team, consisting of Dr. hab. Alicja Krzemińska and Dr. Eng. Anna Zaręba, prepared a lecture titled “Green Symbiosis of Cities” and a design workshop called “City-Creation! How to Design a Green, Symbiotic Urban Patchwork.”During the lecture “Green Symbiosis of Cities”, Dr. hab. Alicja Krzemińska discussed the concept of coexistence between nature and urban space. Participants learned about examples of green urban infrastructure and how the presence of greenery impacts the quality of life for city residents. The topic of increasing urban biodiversity and the importance of consciously designing spaces that are friendly to both people and the environment was also addressed. Among the active participants in the workshop were students from Zespół Szkół nr 1 in Świdnica. During the workshop, students took on the role of green city designers and created their own visions of ecological segments of the urban landscape, combining elements of nature with city infrastructure. The lecture and workshops were developed based on research results from the project titled:
“Food production and supply through circular urban systems in European cities” [acronym: FOCUSE], funded by the National Centre for Research and Development under the DUT call 2022 program, with a budget of PLN 1,125,906.50.
Project duration: February 1, 2024 – January 31, 2027.
